If you're looking for an off-the-beaten-path experience near Manuel Antonio National Park, Los Campesinos Ecolodge is truly one of our favorite spots in Costa Rica. We are going every time we have family visiting.
Surrounded by lush rainforest, waterfalls, and breathtaking mountain views, this hidden gem offers a perfect mix of adventure and authenticity. If you're not planning a trip to Monteverde during your stay, this is something you absolutely need to add to your itinerary..

What is Los Campesinos Ecolodge?
Located about an hour's drive from Quepos and Manuel Antonio, in Quebrada Arroyo village, where less than 50 people live, Los Campesinos Ecolodge provides an immersive experience in the heart of the jungle, away from the typical tourist crowds.
This serene retreat is a place surrounded by nature. This is why all families from Quebrada Arroyo decided to create a place to share with the world. This place offers an authentic glimpse into the region's natural beauty and rich culture.
From breathtaking waterfalls and natural pools to incredible hiking trails and suspension bridges, Los Campesinos offers a little bit of everything for adventurers and romantics alike.
This spot offers stunning viewpoints and a fantastic restaurant, along with about 15 cozy cabins for an overnight stay surrounded by nature. I’ve visited a few times during the day, so I can’t comment on the cabin’s comfort, but I can only imagine how magical it would be to spend a night here under the stars.
There are three main trails to explore. One is a 30-minute hike that features a hanging bridge. Another 30-minute trail boasts the longest hanging bridge, a waterfall, and three natural pools. The main trail is a leisurely 25-minute walk.
All the trails are easy, making them perfect for families with kids. I highly recommend this place!
How to get to Los Campesinos Ecolodge?
Getting to Los Campesinos is part of the experience—but be prepared. Los Campesinos Reserve is a beautiful part of Costa Rica, but it can be tricky to get to on your own.
If you book a tour with us, the transportation is included, so you don't have to worry about it. Get picked up from your hotel and enjoy a smooth journey to Los Campesinos.
If you want to go on your own, here is some advice about how to get there.
It's a dirt road to get there, mostly unpaved, steep, and very bumpy. A 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended, especially during the rainy season (May-October) when conditions can become muddy and a bit sketchy.
To get to this amazing place from Quepos, take the road to Naranjito and Londres, the closest towns to Los Campesinos Ecolodge. After you pass Naranjito and Londres, you will start driving on a dirt road. Thirty minutes later, you will reach Los Campesinos Ecolodge.
While the journey can feel adventurous, the reward at the end is 100% worth it.
Why should you visit Los Campesinos Ecolodge?
Here are some of the highlights that make Los Campesinos Costa Rica an amazing thing to do near Manuel Antonio.
Breathtaking hanging bridges
The suspension bridges at Los Campesinos are one of its most iconic features. These bridges offer stunning views of the surrounding rainforest and cascading waterfalls below. It's a thrilling experience to walk across, feeling the gentle sway underfoot while taking in the panoramic beauty all around.
Natural Pools and Waterfalls
After exploring the trails and crossing the bridges, cool off in one of the natural pools fed by pristine waterfalls. These pools offer a refreshing break from the tropical heat and a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The crystal-clear waters and tranquil setting create a sense of paradise that's hard to match.
This natural pool will always have a lot of water since this water comes from an aquifer mantle. So it’s the best option for a refreshing swim during the dry season. It's a perfect place for a family moment.
Hiking Trails with Stunning Views
The hiking trails at Los Campesinos cater to all levels of fitness and adventure. Whether you're looking for a leisurely walk or a more challenging hike, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the rainforest, waterfalls, and wildlife. Keep an eye out for exotic birds, monkeys, and other creatures that call this rainforest home.
Cultural Connection
What sets Los Campesinos apart is its connection to the local community. The eco-lodge is run by a cooperative of local families who have lived in the area for generations. By visiting, you'll not only enjoy an authentic Costa Rican experience but also support sustainable tourism that benefits the local community.
The romantic proposal spot
Speaking of suspension bridges, this spot holds a special place in my heart because my best friend Randy proposed to his future wife, Jessica, right on one of these bridges! Surrounded by the sounds of the jungle and the beauty of nature, it's easy to see why this was the perfect place for a romantic proposal. If you're planning a romantic getaway or even looking for the ideal proposal spot, Los Campesinos Costa Rica is an unforgettable choice.
